Artistic Reflections

The Fire Inside

The Fire Inside

I don’t have a fireplace where I live now. I do miss them. To sit and watch the fire flicker, light dance, and flames warm around the room. Fire is a powerful thing, and a key to many of the luxuries we enjoy. My “fireplace” is a glorified electric heater. Pretty to look at, but not mesmerizing and there is no dancing light across the room. Warmth is limited, and slow to spread.

We all have a light, but is it warm and bright, or is it limited…artificial? Keeping to God’s word and prayer stokes the fires of the heart, mind and soul. Take some time and find that fire inside. Not the artificial one that is slow to heat and dim for others to see. The real fire, the light that God has chosen us for. Find it and show it. That fire is there!

I wrote the following in 2016, and a friend of mine brought it to light (maybe pun intended) today. I’m glad she did. I think it is as pertinent now as it was then:

Within us is a light. Some shine bright for all to see, others are tinged with pain, loss, anger, We must also understand that it is not us that produces the light. It is the glory of God that gives us the light. Yet together…no matter how dim, stained, broken…we are a light in the darkness. A mosaic of our total experience, and what we do with the light reflects the glory of our Father in Heaven.

John 8:12 – Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
